Why Its Crucial To Prioritize Your Parents Health Now Instead Of Waiting Until They're 80.

Updated: Mar 10

“Imagine waking up one day to realize your parents are no longer independent — and worse, that you could have prevented it."

Most people wait until their loved ones turn 70, 75, or even 80 before worrying about their health. By then, it’s often too late.

The Painful Reality Is This: When your parents health collapses, everyone suffers. Not just them – but you, the rest of your family, the financial strain, and a level of suffering no family is ever truly prepared for.

If I could rewind time, I would have educated myself and understood that modern day healthcare is designed to treat patients once they become ill. In other words, the doctors step in when illness appears when the best protocol is to prevent illness from arising in the first place.

Think about it this way: Why gamble with years of chronic disease, hospital visits, or dementia care (By then, the damage is much harder to reverse, though still possible) when you could have prevented it from happening in the first place? Everybody with the right knowledge and practices can remain healthy, resilient and free from diseases or disability.

And this isn’t wishful thinking – it’s science. We now know the “Four Horsemen” of Modern Death – Cardiovascular disease, Cancer, Alzheimer’s and Type 2 Diabetes – cause nearly 98% of all deaths. Even more striking? These diseases don’t suddenly appear at 70. They begin decades earlier, silently progressing. The earlier we act, the greater the chance to prevent, delay, or dramatically reduce their impact.

Unfortunately, society doesn’t teach us this. Our current medical schools don’t focus on Lifespan. And so we wait – until it is too late. The cost of waiting is devastating.

Thus, we often wait until it’s too late. And the price?

Here’s what I often see:

“My mother is suffering and I don’t know what to do. All she does is sleep, eat, poop and pee. She either sleeps all day, stares at the ceiling or lashes out with arguments, gaslighting and being passive aggressive.  I’m completely exhausted from trying to care for her. Dementia feels like the “disease that keeps on giving” – dragging on for years.”

Or something like this:

“I used to be so opposed to placing my father in a care home and “shuttering away the aged” but I totally get it now. The stress, the fights with my sister and on top of the emotional strain, the cost is astronomical. The suffering—for him and for us—feels unbearable. Why does our medical nation not address this misery???”

I know these stories too well - both personally and professionally from working in the care industry. Families are left broken, financially strained and emotionally drained. Even in care homes, suffering is rampant. (And by the way, the care industry is full of holes and numbers of carers in the future looks uncertain)

What You Must Do Right Now

The solution isn’t to wait until crisis hits. The solution is to prioritize health decades earlier — before illness ever takes root.

So what can you do right now? This applies even If your parents are already at a critical stage or entering their 70s as taking action now can drastically slowed down any existing symptoms and possibly reverse it.

Here’s where to start:

  • Start Conversations Early – Talk with your parents now about their health goals and priorities. The key to motivating them is to lead by example. For example, if they see you, your partner and your children embrace healthier habits such as exercise, they are far more likely to join in.

In our discourse, we teach the secret to improving your parents health by making inspiration feel as their own.

  • Educate Yourself in Lifespan Science – The healthcare system won’t teach you how to prevent disease – it only steps in when you’re already sick. Instead, you must seek out the science of longevity and understand how health truly works. Yes, it’s complex and confusing, therefore, we created a discourse that will streamlined the process of you having to educate yourself and also teach you new strategies not found anywhere else.

  • Focus On Prevention, Not Treatment – Rewire yourself to think of “Prevent Crises” before it happens through early-warning checklists such as heart health, kidney health, mobility, cognition, nutrition, sleep, home-safety assessments that prevent falls and emergencies.

  • Encourage Regular Health Screenings – Do not wait for symptoms. Detect risks years before they become deadly.

You don’t have to become a doctor. You just need to understand this simple truth: The actions we take in our 40s, 50s, and 60s will shape the quality of life in our 70s, 80s, and beyond, so take action now.

Mom and Dad deserves better. So do you. They deserve health. You deserve peace. And your children deserve a brighter future. ❤️
